AI Buyer Persona

Also called: AI prospect, simulated buyer, AI buyer simulation

An AI buyer persona is the other side of a practice conversation. It is what makes AI sales practice a simulation rather than a chatbot exercise, and its quality is the single biggest determinant of whether practice transfers to live calls.

An AI buyer persona is a configurable AI prospect that represents a specific combination of industry, personality, authority level and objection style. It plays the buyer's side of a practice conversation, responding in real time to what the rep actually says rather than following a fixed script.

The attributes that define one

A persona is the combination of a handful of variables, and changing any one of them produces a materially different conversation:

  • Authority level — a gatekeeper, a practitioner and a finance stakeholder end the call for entirely different reasons.
  • Personality — curt, agreeable-but-non-committal, hostile early and warm later.
  • Industry context — the objection set differs sharply between SaaS, insurance, real estate and home services.
  • Objection style — price, timing, incumbent vendor, authority, trust.
  • Engagement level, ideally adaptive: a weak opener should produce a less engaged buyer than a strong one.

What makes one realistic

Realism is behavioural before it is vocal. A natural-sounding voice that capitulates at the first reframe teaches a rep that the weak reframe works, which is worse than no practice. The properties that matter are resistance, persona coherence across the conversation, and memory — a persona that remembers what the rep already said will call out a clumsy second attempt rather than politely re-hearing it.

A useful diagnostic when evaluating any practice platform: run a deliberately bad opener and see what happens. A buyer that engages warmly anyway is not a simulation, it is an agreeable chatbot.

Practise this, don't just read about it

DUODIAL runs voice-based sales conversations against adaptive AI buyers and scores every session, so the next attempt is better than the last one.

Frequently asked

Common questions

An ideal customer profile describes who a company should sell to, as a targeting definition. An AI buyer persona is a behavioural specification for a simulation: how a particular kind of buyer talks, what they object to, and how they respond to pressure. The ICP informs which personas are worth building; it is not itself one.
